Instructions for Use of the Data Mining and Visualization Tools

In order to run both MAGIC Gene Discovery and MAGIC Sequence Viewer a PC requires the Java Runtime Environment, preferably JRE 5.0 update 11 or newer.  The latest version is available at no cost from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.

The first time you run either program on your computer, it will be downloaded.  Subsequently, the program will be downloaded again only if it has been modified.  You will probably be warned that you should choose not to download the program.  We have not obtained (i.e., paid for) a certificate to verify that we can be trusted.  We request that you download the program anyway.

If either program does not work, please remove any existing Java Runtime Environment and install a fresh version.

Please do not save a shortcut for either program on your desktop.  If you do, when we modify the program you will continue to work with an old version and thus not benefit from any bug fixes or enhancements.  In fact, the old version might no longer work.
